Story behind the song
At the time this was written (2007), I'd never been on a transport bus and then driven to a facility like CFCF in Philly. Due to a sentencing "snafu", I was sent there in 2010 for 3 days, in order to satisfy a DUI obligation.
Home for a pivotal Generational Matriarch's funeral of a prominent extended Family member, Penn Relay weekend. Later that evening, I went to (then)Palmer Night Club like I did any time since I'd been sneaking in under 21. Because I knew how to mimic their member passes...Visiting from out of town after living in VT. Though just allowed in. The things I did as a child did not work as a man, after da club. Like sleep in the car. With keys in pocket and sleep in car at a meter. I was charged with a DUI. Although my paper work would say I was driving. But they didn't touch the weed. So I guess I got off lucky.
Still never been in the pen pen like Graterford. However, was shackled to Brothers that are still incarcerated to this day somewhere. Even though I was temporarily there for 72 hours. The Brothers that I was transported, processed with and especially my "cellies" at CFCF are unforgettable. These are individuals that I broke slimy wet bread and apples that smelled like balls with. While encouraging me, teaching me the kool-aide currency system and how to shit and flush.
I no longer drink.
That experience like 5th and St. Julian is locked in my brain forever. The irony is the photo that accompanies this song is the night at Palmers before I left to sleep in my car. What a commemoration of what not to do when you get home and "let your hair down".
What is even more important to point out is if it wasn't for the resources of my Immediate Family. I would have been flushed. Reckoning one year from 50, I used a lot of what would've been college money on staying out of prison.
